About pools and backyard setups

A backyard pool setup is constrained by three measurements people rarely check before buying: usable water length, depth at the shallow end, and how much flat space there is around the edge. Those three decide what fits, where it anchors and whether it can be deployed by one person. Shade is the fourth and most underrated — the gear that lasts is the gear that is not baking in direct sun from November to March, and the pool that gets used in January is the one with somewhere to stand that is not 50°C underfoot.

Backyard entertainment: common questions

What should I check before buying pool gear?

Usable water length, shallow-end depth, and the flat space around the edge where you will inflate and store it. Most disappointing purchases fit the pool on paper and not the backyard in practice.

How do I keep pool inflatables lasting?

Keep them out of permanent direct sun, rinse chlorine off, and store them dry and loosely rolled rather than hard-folded. UV and chlorine residue age an inflatable far faster than being swum on.
