About recovery and performance
Recovery is mostly unglamorous. Sleep, total training load and food account for the overwhelming majority of how you feel on day three of a hard block, and every modality layered on top is working at the margins of those three. That does not make the margins worthless — at the sharp end of a season, the margins are the whole game — but it does mean a plunge after a session you under-slept and under-ate for is treating the symptom. The useful way to read this topic is as a set of tools to deploy deliberately on specific days, not a routine to perform because it feels productive.
Athletic performance: common questions
Should I ice bath after every session?
No. Use it when being functional for the next session matters more than maximising adaptation from the last one — match days, back-to-back fixtures, heavy in-season weeks. On strength and hypertrophy days, leave a few hours or skip it.
Does it actually help, or does it just feel good?
Both, honestly. The evidence for reduced perceived soreness and faster return to feeling ready is reasonable; the evidence for faster tissue repair is much weaker. Feeling ready to train is not nothing, as long as you know which one you are buying.
